Inauguration Of Barack Obama

Sophie was gracious enough to allow me to have control of the television for a few minutes in order to watch the swearing in of the 44th President of United States. I also wanted her to see it, even if she is only two I wanted to say that when this momentus and historic event happened that she witnessed it, even if she won't remember it. So as we are watching the events unfold and I am tearing up at the awesomeness and the powerful words of President Obama's speech Sophie is watching alongside me and clapping everytime the crowd claps and saying, "Go Bobamabama" and "Yay Bobamabama!". She made me smile as she always does, my sweet, sweet Sophie.

It could be just because I am his wife, but I think he is so, so very talented and now he has decided to share his talent with others. Hairdryers Aren't Just For Drying Hair........

No, no, no, in the Slimick household you can use a hairdryer to unfreeze your kitchen sink pipes! I should say pipe, singular, because only the cold water pipe froze, so all day long we could use the hot, warm, and luke warm, but the minute we turned the faucet past the halfway mark into the "cold" area BAM nothing. So after dinner Neal used my hairdryer to unfreeze the pipe and he had a little helper. It took a little bit, but after about a half hour of hairdrying the pipe we now have cold water again in the kitchen. HOORAY! Note to Slimicks: When it gets into the teens alway leave faucet dripping! Ooops.

Gettting Cold in the Carolinas

The temperature is dropping here in the Carolinas and it is getting CHILLY, we woke up this morning to a frigid 13 degrees and a frozen kitchen sink pipe....ooops! Now if only we could get a little precipitation with all this cold weather so that Sophie and I could enjoy some SNOW and maybe Neal could get a snow day from work!!!! Sophie and I had some fun outside in the cold, we got all bundled up went for a walk and then came back to the house and played in the backyard, she even helped pick up a few of the millions of pine cones we have in the yard. I snapped a few cute pics of the fun! I like the new camera it is much, much lighter and easier to handle than the old one.

A Little Reading Material

Today marks the day that Sophie came to me and told me that she needed to pee instead of me constantly hovering over her asking her if she needed to use the potty. Yay Sophie!!! This came after a few battles of trying to get her to sit on the potty and her saying that she was, "All Done" and "No Potty". So I just said to myself, okay if she has an accident, she has an accident, no big deal, she is either going to pee all over herself and my carpet or she is going to let me know she needs to go. Sure enough at 5:10pm she let me know that she indeed had to use the potty. I was so proud of her I had to call Neal and share the good news and he was just as pleased! It is the little things in this crazy game of parenthood that get us excited. Anyway, thought I would share the good news that Sophie has shown us that she is ready to continue with potty training and it wasn't all just Mommy and Daddy putting forth the effort! In true Slimick style I also documented this momentus occasion with a few lovely photos of Sophie on the potty checking out the Pottery Barn Kids catalog. She made sure to let me know which items she liked, "Mommy, I likes this bed, Mommy, I likes this room". Too cute I tell you!

Day Three

Well I think the picture can speak for itself! Day Three was ACCIDENT FREE!!!! YAY SOPHIE!!!!!! She stayed dry the entire time we were out doing errands, about an hour and 40 minutes (I put a Pull-Up on over her underwear so she could feel the wetness if she had an accident, and would be less clean up for me!). She also managed to stay dry through her entire nap from 1pm to 3:40pm!!!! She really is doing so well Neal and I are very impressed. She is not telling us yet on her own that she has to go, but I am keeping a close eye on her liquid intake and then judging from there about how often I need to place her on the potty. Which, so far is working out and the intervals seemed to be spaced anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and several times she went just over an hour and a half! We are well on our way to big-girl-hood! Sad and exciting all at the same time. I am hoping that her being able to tell me all on her own that she has to go use the potty is right around the corner. We are so proud of her.

So Far, So Good

Day two of potty training went pretty well. She only had two accidents, that goes down in my book as a job well done. We put her in a Pull Up to go to church and she stayed dry the entire time while in nursery, as she would say, "Yay Sophie!" I checked her Pull Up before we got in the car to leave church and head home and she was still dry, I thought we would make it home in time since it is a short 5 minute ride, but I thought wrong, she must have peed right as we were walking into the house because the Pull Up was still warm with pee when I took it off. No big deal, my fault really. So she ate lunch and went down for a nap, we are still putting diapers on her for nap time, because I am not changing the sheets everytime she naps and I do not want naptime interrupted because she wakes up all wet and then can't get back to sleep after everything is all cleaned up. No way, Mommy needs her sanity time and that for now is coming the form of a diaper in order to secure a long nap! She did poop twice on the potty as well, as small and nugget like as they may have been they were poops none the less! Her second accident came around dinner time when we also had friends over, she was very excited and distracted and I think it just kind of snuck up on her! So anyway that is the potty training saga for today. She is so proud of herself when she uses the potty and is getting better at recognizing when she has to go.
